Hebrews 6:9-20
But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. 10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16 For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. 17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
Verse 9 says, "Beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes things that accompany salvation though we speak in this manner." There's a life and world God wants to give us, that also comes with salvation. He wants us knitted and fitted in love to bring a joy and peace to our lives that only one can dream of. God says in His word He knows what we want before we ask Him. So He must witness us turning ourselves into holy vessels for righteousness and love of others. We are to be diligent in our calls to Christ not growing weary in this spiritual fight. We are to be in one mind, heart, and spirit, ministering to each other and admonishing each other in the excellence of God, believing in hope and faith for our rewards and inheritance. Do not become sluggish in this pursuit Paul says. Imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. God is going to make us work love, patience, kindness, long suffering and graciousness for our inheritances and we must embrace it and achieve it, doing all things without complaining. He wouldn't put any more on us than we can bear. Remember, all things work for His Glory. We can give up our lives to find our lives, selling our very souls to Jesus Christ who ordained us a better life. Paul says in verse 16, For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. Our world will say or do most anything to close a business deal. Still there are lawsuits, filling the courts. But verse 17 says God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. I myself had to flee family, friends, employer, drugs, lying, thievery, and unrighteousness for better things to come.
Blessings Lord as we anchor ourselves in your love for the better things,
